METRx™ X-Tube™ Retraction System - The METRx™ X-Tube™ Retraction System builds on the METRx™ Microdiscectomy System by providing more extensive access to the surgical area. By expanding at the base from a diameter of 2.5 cm to 4.0 cm, the METRx™ X-Tube™ Retraction System provides pedicle-to-pedicle exposure.

The METRx™ System allows surgeons to insert a series of dilators through a small incision, one around the other, to gradually separate the muscle fibers until an appropriately sized corridor leading to the surgical area is created. The surgeon then inserts a tubular retractor to hold this operative corridor open, allowing for surgical tools and instruments to be inserted. Like inserting the tubular retractors that come stock with the METRx™ System, the surgeon inserts a METRx™ X-Tube™ retractor over the dilators, seats it flush with the bony anatomy, and locks it in place with a flexible arm. The surgeon then removes the dilators, establishing a tubular opening to the surgical area. By inserting the METRx™ X-Tube™ Retractor System opener instrument into the X-Tube™ retractor and enlarging the opening of the tube at its base, the surgeon has the ability to expand this corridor up to 4.0 cm in diameter.

The METRx™ System is indicated for visualization of the surgical field in any area of the body opened through incision during a surgical procedure.
