The NIM-SPINE™ System is used by surgeons to locate and identify the patient's peripheral motor nerves during spinal surgery. The system provides audible and visual real-time feedback to aid in decision-making during spinal surgery. "NIM" stands for neural integrity monitor.

The NIM-SPINE™ System allows surgeons to monitor the spinal cord and nerve roots throughout every stage of surgery to optimize the placement of spinal instrumentation and to reduce the risk of nerve root irritation. The device can be used during open or minimally invasive procedures.

To use the monitor, recording electrodes are placed in the muscles of associated nerve roots. If the nerve root becomes irritated, a signal will be generated and recorded by the monitor to alert the surgeon. By providing advance warning, the device may help prevent nerve damage.

The NIM-SPINE™ System offers two types of monitoring modalities, electromyographic (EMG) and motor evoked potential (MEP), another key benefit of the system. EMG provides the reporting on individual nerve roots, whereas MEP provides feedback on the spinal cord function. The combination of EMG and MEP monitoring improves the flexibility of the system.

Ask your surgeon about the NIM-SPINE™ System. To locate a spinal surgeon in your area, visit our Find A Doctor locator.

It is important that you discuss the potential risks, complications, and benefits of the NIMSPINE™ with your doctor prior to receiving treatment, and that you rely on your physician's judgment. Only your doctor can determine whether you are a suitable candidate for this treatment.
